This antique salesman sample printing press or industrial marking equipment, although small, it is not a toy but an advertising item. It is made of sheet metal and has three cylinders, one covered with rubber, to print the text, and two covered with linen fabric, probably to damp the ink. It is complete, and still functional. It has its original manufacturer label. I can hardly read the name of the company on the back of the printing press, but it could be Woodworkers Hardware Mfg Co., Chicago, Ill. It seems that this automatic printer was to be used as part of a packaging line to print promotional messages. (See original printed message on the photo.) Rare and interesting isn’t it? |
