Exceptional Victorian era XIXth century hooked wool carpet from Quebec, Canada.
Primitive Quebec folk art early hooked rug 1800s – early 1900s entirely made of hooked and knotted wool threads. It is a brown wool rectangular rug with a festooned beige medallion inside. The medallion features a large raised flower, seemingly a rose, very densely hooked on one side and a raised flower stem with three flower buds on the other side. This type of Victorian pattern with a rose motif was probably common at the time. Both ends are neatly finished with a brown cotton hand sewn edging. As is common with these old rugs, the back is covered with a very rustic hand sewn burlap piece. It is a nice early French Canadian Quebec antique hooked rug highly desirable and collectable, and perfect for a country rustic decor. Typical muted colours of the period and some restorations (small leaves of a clearer shade).
