Very old appliqué embroidered with an elaborate and very delicate pattern in neutral and discreet tones. It is made of a large central disc embroidered on oyster cream silk satin with the letters JHS or IHS, abbreviation of the name Jesus in Greek, to which is attached a plant motif composed of four flowers surmounted by a cross. This religious garment appliqué has its paper on the back on which there are traces of glue. Very nice embroidery work. 

You will find in this online shop other hand-embroidered cutouts of old ecclesiastical liturgical vestments for reuse. The 19th century is often considered the golden age of their making and these pieces probably date from this period. These are rare and remarkable pieces for the quality of the fine embroidery work carried out for their decoration, no doubt by nuns. The pieces were cut from liturgical vestments and found at a flea market. They are of very different styles.Their origin is unknown, but they probably come from Quebec.
