Authentic English hand-coloured botanical print of a great quality by a well known botanical designer and botanical engraver. The plate number is 583, probably from a botanical register and might represent a variety of thistles. Colours are realistic and the image is artistically presented. Framing is of good quality, and worth keeping as it is. Engraver: J. Watts (British, 19th c.) Designer: M. Hart (British, 19th c.) Date: 1821 Medium: Original hand-coloured etching Publisher: J. Ridgway, London Not much information is available on many of the 19th century botanical artists because their works were primarily created for scientific and educational purposes. In that regards, they have left behind some of the finest records of the 19th century floral world. We have now come to regard these engravings as wonderful works of botanical art.
