This is a nice antique early 20th century Samuel Arlent Edwards signed single-print mezzotint engraving in color of a young boy. It is a reinterpretation of the famous Master Lambton painting by Thomas Lawrence. The background is somewhat different and the boy's outfit is blue instead of red. Samuel Arlent's creative reinterpretations are more than mere reproductions, they are original works of art in their own right.
S. Arlent Edwards (1862-1938) came to the United States in 1890 and then began to work on color printing from a single mezzotint plate, an art dormant since late in the eighteenth century that he reinvented.
He routinely penciled just above his signature as he did in this colored mezzotint: "Engraved and printed in color at one printing without retouching"
