Vintage spectacular Chimayo style hand woven wool and cotton table runners / wall hangings.
Beautifully and skillfully woven banded style table runners, one large and one small. The sophisticated color palette gradients are beautiful: a great example of this beautiful weaving tradition centered in Northern New Mexico. The main color is olive combined with numerous thin lines of various ther colours. The result is spectacular. These beautiful pieces are made of very fine wool (germantown?) weft and cotton warp with long cotton notted fringes. Chimayo has long been an important site for the weaving traditions of northern New Mexico, and the style of weaving which developed between 1920 and 1940 is named after the town. The Chimayo style is characterized by transverse bands and a prominent central motif.
Measurements: large one: 18 1/4" X 8 1/2" (46.5 cm X 21.5 cm) (without fringe); fringes 3.5" (9 cm); small one 9 1/2" X 6" (24 cm X 15 cm) plus fringe 2 3/4" (7 cm).
Condition: Good used condition for age. Small stains and slight discoloration on one side of the large piece but no tear or hole; fringe is clean and intact. No odor.
