Fabulous all original vintage tightly woven wicker gesso barbola square basket with exquisite and exclusive pyramidal shape, twisted wicker handle slightly ex-centered for a better equilibrium. The barbola roses and leaves garland is very detailed, thick and colourful.
BARBOLA is an applied molded decorative trim made from a plastic and plaster/gesso paste usually found in decorative shapes of flower garlands and swags. It is found on vintage baskets, mirrors and picture frames. According to the Oxfort Dictionary, the word was formed in the 1920’s from barbotine.
Finding an item like this one with its original colours on the garland flowers is exceptional. Barbola baskets are quite scarce and highly sought after by collectors. Perfect for your shabby chic, vintage cottage, or Victorian décor home.

Very good vintage condition with only a small wicker piece missing on the bottom, small loss of paint on one flower and tiny paint losses on the wicker.
