Beautiful stylized design vase in a wonderful rare oxblood colour designed by Maurice Savoie possibly in limited edition for Sial Pottery of Laval in the 1970's. It is square and the glazing is bright and shiny. He also designed large mugs in this style and colour.
Savoie was a Montréal based ceramic artist who was known for his technical mastery and innovative approach. He was a member of the Royal Academy of Arts. He studied in Italy and France. His work is in the collections of many a museum: the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts, the National Gallery of Canada and the Canadian Museum of civilization. A mural work can be found at the McGill metro station. Maurice Savoie died in 2013.
