Exquisite and rare ceramic jar generally called a ginger jar due to its particular oriental shape. It has a high rim over which fits a dome-shaped cover bulging out from the top and a globular body. This nice lidded jar or urn was made by Villeroy & Boch in the years 1920 to 1935 as indicated by the blue stamp underside according to which the oriental style jar was made in Wallerfangen in the Saar-Basin after WWI. The items produced during that period are also identified as Mettlach Villeroy & Boch. The blue and white decor of this urn is particularly interesting: it features 2 medallions each one with a different landscape, a particularly classic motif, while the background is in the typical bauhaus style of the period with its intricate geometrical shapes.  The decor is transfer printed. 
 
Dimensions: 20.5 cm (8") tall with lid; base 7.5 cm (3") across; opening 5.5 cm (2 1/8") across.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. No damage.
