Very rare antique small shop furniture round prescription flint glass bottle with ground glass cap. This type of apothecary bottle was used mainly c. 1900. There are seam lines on the cap to the flat top as well as on the bottle where they go up to the narrow ground neck. There is a recessed area on the bottle body for a label. Powder residue inside and number 138 molded under base. No other marking but most certainly of american origin*. It comes from an old Canadian dentist inventory.
Examples of similar bottles can be seen in the Illinois Glass Company 1906 catalogue*. Cylindrical (round in cross-section) bottles were used frequently by druggists to dispense their products and were adopted early by the first pharmacists. The shape was being offered without proprietary embossing (used with labels). They were offered in multiple sizes from 1/4 to 40 ounces for some.See also B780 to B782.
