Vintage dark brown salt glazed pitcher with relief decoration of foliage and a man's head marked Turgis.
This small vintage pot with handle in dark brown clay bears the incised mark TURGIS under the base. Turgis is a pottery in France still manufacturing in the traditional way. Poterie Turgis is a small artisan workshop whose family history spans more than 4 generations and which maintains its range of traditional and contemporary pottery. The Normandy village where the Turgis pottery is located is one of the most important centers of French salt glazed stoneware. This antique style traditional pitcher is also marked with the number 60 and an illegible signature underside. See the pictures.
Dimensions: Height 16 cm or 61/4", width 12.5 cm or 4 7/8"; base diameter 6.5 cm or 2 1/2" Holds approximately 500 mL.
Condition: Very good vintage condition. Like new. Seems dark grey on some pictures. It really is dark brown.
