Beautiful floral embroidery piece done on black velvet with dyed multicolor moose bristles.
It is offered in a white painted wooden frame which puts it well in value. The moose hair tufting is a difficult and painstaking technique.
Such art pieces are produced by Canadian natives using the natural undyed moose hairs either alone or in combination with dyed hairs. Moose-hair embroidery or moose-hair tufting may be done on different materials such as velvet, velveteen, stroud and leather such as moose-hide.
From the earliest times, the Canadian natives and particularly the Hurons produced decorative effects on their clothing, and various buckskin articles, by embroidering the surfaces with moose hairs.
Dimensions: frame 18.25 cm X 23.25 cm and 1.25 cm deep.
Condition: Very good vintage condition. The frame is not the original one.
Smoke-free environment. Shipping fees always combined on multiple purchase.
NOTE: All our products are antique or vintage. We strive to purchase and present only items in good to near-mint condition, but most pieces will show some degree of wear that we try to describe and show in our pictures.
