Very rare antique shop furniture round prescription flint(?) glass bottle with ground glass cap and stopper. This type of apothecary bottle was used mainly from 1850 to 1920.
According to the Illinois Glass Company 1906 catalogue* this type of flint (?) glass bottles shop furniture with ground caps and stoppers were to be used as ether bottles while american oil bottles had ground pour outs and loose caps. Faint seam lines on the bottle go up to the bottle shoulder. They do not appear on the applied ground neck with slightly recessed smoooth top edge. The neck interior is also ground as are the stopper and cap lower edge. Tiny bubbles inside glass wall. No marking but most certainly of american origin*.
Cylindrical (round in cross-section) bottles were used frequently by druggists to dispense their products and were adopted early by the first pharmacists. The shape was being offered without proprietary embossing (used with labels). They were offered in multiple sizes.
This ring tapered collar was very commonly used on all types of proprietary and patent medicines (bitters, tonics, cures, balsams, etc.), used mainly between 1850 and 1920.
