Small vintage hand hammered wrought iron table lamp signed Paul Beauchemin, Trois-Rivières. 1940s-50s.
Trois-Rivières and the Forges du Saint-Maurice are the cradle of blacksmithing in Quebec. Artistic ironwork boomed in the 1930s. In 1933, the Lebrun brothers opened a specialized workshop called La P'tite Forge in Trois-Rivières. Then, in the 1940s and 1950s, a period that could be described as the golden age of hammered wrought iron and ornamental iron, enthusiasts specialized in artistic ironwork and concentrated on the creation of wrought iron objects and ornaments, revaluing forging techniques practiced in Quebec for 300 years.
