Oval stoneware carafe typical of the Sial Oval service by Quebec designer Gaétan Beaudin in the late 70s.
It has its original stopper. Marking is Sial. The colors are an almost black brown called tenmoku brown and rust. These magnificent colors are inspired by Gaëtan Beaudin's stay in Japan. It has its original cap. It is signed Sial. You can make a nice set with Sial cups that we have online in the same colors.
This Sial ceramic decanter represents a nice example of modern Canadian art pottery. The design has mid-century modernist influence.
Oval, Beaudin's own design from 1978 for SIAL, is the most extensive and important tableware design produced in Canada. Over 25 complementary pieces come together producing a service fit for any occasion. Several Canadian museums have pieces of the Sial Pottery in their collection. The pottery closed in 1981.
Condition: Perfect condition without chips, cracks or hairlines. Bright and shiny colours.
Dimensions: Stands approx.10 3/8 inches tall (with stopper), the oval base is 4 5/8 inches X 5 3/4 inches.
