Large vintage German 90% pewter very elegant beer mug or tankard.
Elegant large pitcher or beer mug in a slender cylindrical shape decorated with incised horizontal grooves, typical hinged lid and beautiful volute handle. It is marked under the base with its pewter 90% zinn (German name for pewter) composition, and the hallmark characteristic of German production: an angel carrying a sword in one hand and a scale in the other. The lid is nicely domed with a heart-shaped spout. It is a beautiful decorative object probably made in the years 1970-1980. Manufacturer unknown.
For centuries, pewter was the most popular material used for making eating and drinking utensils. Pewter does not tarnish, rust, or break, and of great importance in the stein business, it does not impart a taste to beer, as do copper, silver, and iron.
Dimensions: Height 22 cm, width from the end of the spout to the back of the handle approx. 17 cm, diameter at the bottom 12 cm and opening at the top 7.5 cm.
