This antique Pyrex glass filter coffee maker is a typical pour over coffee maker involving manually pouring water over coffee grounds. However, it is totally different from the traditional French filter coffee maker which is generally made of two separable units. This coffee pot is made of one piece that serves as both coffee brewer and server.
The upper part holds the filter with the ground coffee, and the brewed coffee drips down into the lower part. The aluminium permanent coffee filter with its screwable cover sits inside the coffee maker opening and is removable for cleaning. The coffee pot is marked Pyrex on the bottom with the letters Bté (for Breveté meaning Patented) and the acronym SGDG for Sans garantie du gouvernement (meaning Without state guarantee). The handle is manually applied.
Pyrex started manufacturing in France in 1922. This drip coffee pot is a very early French Pyrex item dating around 1920-1930.
Certainly a very innovative item at the time and a highly collectible one.
