Chinoiserie papier mache wall hanging corner folding shelf
This delightful and very decorative antique shelf dates to the latter part of the 19th or the beginning of the 20th Century and was most likely made in England or France. Papier mache items were very popular at that time, and Asian themes were often used.
This shelf is meant to be hung in a corner and has a top shelf with scalloped gilded edge to display your treasured objects. It has wonderful gold tones bright painted scenes depicting on the right Japanese gentleman and ladies dressed in their best garments. On the left two ladies under an umbrella sit in a carriage drawn by a man. At the bottom left two boys sit at a table to eat a bowl of rice. The subtle use of gold and orange paint against the black background creates a wonderful display.
The shelf can be folded flat.
Dimensions : 18.5 cm (7 1/4") tall, 25 cm (9 7/8") wide and 14 cm (5 1/2") deep.
État/Condition: Very good vintage condition. Some surface wear on the black exterior surface. Painted scenes in excellent conditions.
